Day 2

A long day of driving. We started the day with French Toast, cooked to perfection on our little gas stove in the camper. We drove from southern Virginia (Blue Ridge Parkway near Meadows of Dan), across Tennessee and into Alabama ("Bama"). We are camped near Gadsden, Alabama, about 60 miles from Birmingham. Not much sightseeing today, although we stopped at a little town in Tennessee called Loudon that called itself an "antique historic district." We bought a small Acoma pot at an antique store to add to our collection and Ken bought a wooden gas alarm--a wooden rachet noise maker that he makes with his students. It was used during WWI to warn of gas attacks.
We are staying at a campground called River Country Campground along the Coosa River. It's a lot hotter tonight; we hope there is a breeze. And guess what--they have free WiFi here at the campground! They do have wireless in Alabama, Meg!
I took a couple of photos of our camp site and the river.

Tomorrow we head across Alabama to Mississippi and down to New Orleans and then begin our drive along the Gulf Coast toward Route 10 and Houston. So far the camping has been fine and our drive not too taxing (except for those trucks on the Interstate).
