Days 6 and 7

Today is Tuesday, July 25. Meg, Ken and I are going sightseeing in Galveston today. I will post more information, and pictures from yesterday later this afternoon.
Well, we ended up not driving to Galveston after all. The weather forecast for the Gulf coast was tropical rains and flash flooding; we decided to stay in Houston and explore some museums. Meg had to first take some photos for a computer modeling job she has for a church about 20 minutes south of here. Then we took off for the Houston Museum District. We visited the Rothko Chapel which houses fourteen of abstract expressionist Mark Rothko's paintings. We then went to the Menil Museum, which unfortunately was closed, but we saw the "architecturally significant" building designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano. Next we visited the campus of St. Thomas University with its Meisian campus and its chapel designed by architect Philip Johnson. After lunch we went to the Houston Museum of Natural Science where we saw Gunther von Hagens' Body Worlds 3 exhibit (Mom, maybe you should consider plastination). The exhibit includes more than 200 specimens of human anatomy including individual organs, transparent body slices and entire plasticized bodies. The Garrison biology and art students visited Body Worlds in Philadelphia earlier this year. We also saw an exhibit of burial relics from Ur, in early Mesopotamia.

Yesterday, we visited Jared's office in the Resource Center and then Susan's new booth in the Houston Antique Center. Jared also gave us a tour of some of Houston's real estate properties, including a firehouse which is being restored and possibly is for sale. We also stumbled upon a warehouse and yard full of larger-than-life presidential statues. My favorite was Abraham Lincoln.

Earlier this morning Meg took some pictures of Shiloh.

Here are 2 days of photos, beginning with Jared working in his office:
